Club History

George Mitton

North Huntington Beach Futbol Club's first team hit the pitch in 1977 under the guidance of our first President and coach Steve Oliver of Huntington Beach. In 1981 Steve felt that the referee world needed some help which was his first love. As State Youth Referee Administrator, he oversaw all referees in CYSA-S. He asked George and June Mitton to take over his soccer club that year. George said no but June persuaded George to take over the helm. George was the President of the club until his death in March 2008. June Mitton was the backbone of the club till she passed away in (1997). Her love and dedication to the game was duly noticed by CYSA-S in 1992 when they inducted her into the "Hall of Fame."

Roger Wyett was our first professional coach. He joined the club in 1986. Roger started coaching youth at the age of 22 in England. He came to the United States in 1981. Roger possesses a Masters Degree in Science and was a strong advocate of soccer opening doors to further education. His commitment to the game is born out of a desire to return something to the game and open avenues for young people. As a result, approximately seventy-five boys have received scholarships at major four year schools during his involvement with the club. Rogers accomplishments were many during his tenure with our club including "Coach of the Year" in 1990.

Paul Gardner - Soccer America May 3, 1990

"North Huntington Beach put on what I would rate as one of the most convincing performances I have ever seen from an American club team.
NHB had taken Tahuichi (Columbia Youth National Team) to overtime. They had done it not being defensive, but by going forward, looking to score. A most encouraging game for American soccer, or at least for California soccer."

1989 - CYSA-S National Challenge Cup State Finalists
1988 - CYSA-S National Challenge Cup State Finalists
1987 - CYSA-S National Challenge Cup State Finalists

Consecutive winners of U-19 tournaments in San Jose (Campbell Cup), Mission Viejo, Upland, Silver State (Las Vegas), Tucson, Huntington Beach, and Orange, totaling fifty-five finalist appearances or championships.

In summary, Roger Wyett has devoted many years to the development of young people at the critical adolescent level. His belief in the values of education and the quality of American youth soccer players can be observed through his wonderful achievements. However, it should be noted that his gifts are not isolated, because he believes in a total team concept and has attracted a number of quality coaches to the NHB Club. In essence, Roger Wyett has proven over the years that he is a fine committed leader of young people and he is able to operate as a catalyst to bring people together to flourish.
