The Board of Directors along with the Coach's of the U-18 NHB Black team that played in CSL Premier League this past year had no problem in awarding these young men a share of the $10,000 that was available in this year's Scholarship Award. The following statements are from the young men receiving the awards.

Jeffery Farber: I have been with NHB for 3 years. Playing for NHB has been one of the best things that could ever have happened to me. It has helped change my entire life. NHB has helped me grow up as both a soccer player and a person. NHB has helped me realize that things in life do not come easy and that sometimes there are obstacles which must be overcome before you can reach your goals. It has taught me that these obstacles, no matter how difficult they are, can be overcome. I am planning to attend Cal State Fullerton and hopefully make the soccer team. My GPA is a 3.40.

Travis Bernard: I have played with NHB for 9 years with the U-11 championship being my most memorable experience. As far as growing up into a man this club has built my base. There is a lot of history behind those 3 letters on my jersey and I'm glad to have become a part of it. I take pride in playing for my team and for my club. On and off the field I feel like I've become a better and more mature person. But on top of that on the field I've learned to play with respect for my club and others as well as play with character. I feel that all of my experiences here will benefit me in college and my life after that. What I feel this club has most importantly done for me is set me on a path for a successful life. It has shown me a lot about how much people care and how much people will do for others. When I think about this club, it's how I want people to think of me as well. I want them to feel like I made a difference in their life or their future like this club did for me. I've now earned myself a scholarship to play soccer at Fresno State next fall.

Anthony Dedeaux: Being part of the NHB family has been one of the most rewarding and inspirational activities in my life. I have been involved in the club since under 10's and finally coming to an end at under 18's. That's the great thing about NHB; it strives not only to make you a better soccer player but a better person in life. I don't think I would be the young man I am today without NHB and the Montoya family. It is a great feeling to have a club and family support you and help you succeed in life. I have learned about work rate, knowledge of the game, decision-making, family, and heart. All these features are very important to me and will be used in my life. My greatest memory was winning the under 11 State Cup Championship. Now eight years later, here I am leaving the club to play at Cal State Fullerton under a scholarship. NHB has allowed me to fulfill my dreams and goals and I can't thank you enough.

Anthony Ordonez: I have been playing for NHB since I was eleven years old. It has been an experience I know I will never forget. There have been many memorable moments I've remembered throughout the seven years I have been playing for this club but the one I will never forget was against our rival, the Nomads. They had beaten us two years in a row in the State Cup finals. Well, we ended up winning the game 2-0. When the ref blew the whistle for the game to end it was a feeling I have never felt before. It's indescribable. I plan to go to Cal State Dominquez Hills. As of right now I have strong feelings to study computer arts or anything that has to do with film. Over all, I cannot thank you, the club enough for what they have given me. I would like to thank Ed and Daniel Montoya for everything they have taught me. I know I would not be the person I am if they weren't part of my life.

George Mitton: My final comments to these four outstanding men and their coach Ed Montoya. To the 4 players I wish them the best in their future endeavors in soccer and in life which I know will be rewarding for you all. Ed, knowing this is your final year with NHB I want to thank you for helping so many children in our club which is evident by the 4 young men. I also want to thank you for being a knowledgeable coach and board member plus all of your help in the NHB tournament over the years.
