They say some things are worth waiting for. Such was the case at the 2013 NHB Cup, as NHB Black GU16 finally brought the Championship Cup home where it belongs.

UCI provided the perfect setting for the team to display their unmatched camaraderie, conditioning, and competitive spirit that enabled them to hold the treasured cup when the final whistle blew.

With a roster greatly reduced by injuries, Head Coach Francisco Flores, and Assistant Coach Mike Koelsch had the girls well trained, conditioned, and ready to play. With only one field player available on the bench, the girl's level of play and the bond they share kept their determination and energy at a level that was second to none.

On Saturday, Game #1 was a hard fought battle vs. Scottsdale Blackhawks which ended in a scoreless tie as both teams failed to find the back of the net. Determined to fix that, the girls recorded a solid 2-1 victory vs. Crescenta Valley in the afternoon match.

Sunday's action was non-stop excitement from start to finish. Needing a victory to advance to the Championship game, the semi-final vs. CFC Liverpool went to PK's. The girls kept their march to the finals alive with an impressive 4-2 win in the shootout.

The Championship game paired NHB Black with a confident FC Manu team who had only allowed a single goal in their previous three matches. Their confidence was taken away by a relentless and determined NHB Black team who fought to a 2-1 victory to win the Championship and hoist the cup.

Coach Flores has adopted the motto, "Choose Success" for the current season. It is clear that the team has made this choice, and they are excited for what the future holds.

Great job girls, and congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment!
