Two For Two: GU10 Wins Another Tournament
In their first game, the girl’s dispatched of Carlsbad Wave FC G9 Black by the score of 9-0. Goals were scored by Jayd Sprague, Trinity Rodman, Lori Mandarino, Katie Freeman, and Megan Larson. Diana Naughton and Camille Heidelbaugh kept the right side of the field strong throughout the game.
Game two was versus the Pateadores G01. NHB completely dominated the game, out shot their opponent 16-0, and won by the score of 1-0. Great defense was played by Cece Odou, Katie Freeman, Lori Mandarino, Peyton Kassouf, and Delaney Trounce.
On Sunday morning, the girl’s faced off against Freedom FC G01 from Chino Hills. NHB scored in the opening minutes when Larson sent a cross from the right that was first timed into the side net by Alexis Beaulac. Later in the game, the girls would get an insurance goal. Maddy Alaluf recorded her third shutout of the weekend.
The last game of the tournament would decide the champions, where NHB would face off against Empire based out of Corona. Empire would strike first on a miscommunication between the NHB goalie and defense. NHB would quickly answer three minutes later when Sprague hit a half volley shot off a Larson cross into the back of the net. Going into the second half tied up, NHB would continue to put pressure on Empire. Their hard work was rewarded when Rodman made a beautiful run down the right side, struck the ball from the top of the box, and placed it in the upper corner for the game winner. When the final whistle blew, NHB won their second consecutive championship of the young season by a score of 2-1.
NHB GU10 will next compete in the Wolfpack tournament on July 9-10, where they will further work to improve themselves for the upcoming CSL season.
