This past weekend in Lancaster, the NHBFC girl’s U12 advanced in the CYSA-S president’s division round of sixteen after posting a 1-1-1 record. Their first opponent on the weekend was against the FC Heat. During the first half, both teams had opportunities to score. Goalkeeper Hailey Babbit made some strong saves, and defender Avril Stulginski saved a ball off of the line. At the start of the second half, things started to improve for NHB as they were applying constant pressure on the Heat defense. In the 42nd minute NHB scored after a nice pattern of passing led to the goal. Riley Wester collected the ball in the middle of the field, played it out wide to Taylor Beaulac, as right back Scheer Levy made an overlapping run. Beaulac played the ball to Levy who then carried the ball up the field and crossed it to forward Tara Abrams, who had a solid first touch, and then buried the ball into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, NHB would strike again as Beaulac, after receiving a pass from Wester, took some dribbles up the field sent a cross into the middle of the goal area where Abrams put the game away with a nice finish.
On Sunday morning, the girl’s played Simi Valley Eclipse. Although NHB dominated the game, they were unable to score, and had to settle for their second consecutive shutout. Strong defense was played by Edee Huff, Kristen Bedard, Daniel Rommerdahl, Stulginski, and Levy. Forward Megan McNamara, who was applying pressure on the Eclipse defense, had the best opportunity to score in the contest, but saw her shot just barely go wide. Emily Larson also had some great corner kicks that the girls were unable to convert.
In the afternoon game Sunday, the girls played South Bay Gunners Redondo. Redondo had scored in every half of their earlier games, but at the end of the first half with NHB the score was 0-0. Midfielders Larson, Wester, and McNamara were closing down the middle, while Sarah Cook, Rommerdahl and Beaulac were shutting down the flanks. Once again the back four were playing strong defense against a very offensive minded squad. Unfortunately, in the second half, Redondo scored twice against a fatigued NHB squad who played the entire weekend with only 12 players, due to sickness.
The girls head back to Lancaster next Saturday for their round of 32 game versus Beach FC. The game is at 11:00, and is the start of single elimination play. If they win, they will play Sunday morning in the round of 16. Good luck girls!
