George Mitton, President of the NHB club, awarded the June Mitton Memorial scholarships to three club members who are graduating this year. The awards, of $4,000 and two for $2,000 each, were presented over the summer at Golden West College and are named in honor of Mitton's wife who passed away three years ago. The awards are given to NHB players who have been with the club at least three years, and exemplify the spirit of excellence, commitment and scholarship that NHB strives to promote in all of its players.

This year's recipients were Estebes Hernandez, B-17 Premier, $4,000. Hernandez will be attending UCLA this fall looking to major in life sciences. He has played for NHB for five years, and this has been his only club. He was coached by Matt Montoya and George Mitton in his final year.

Hernandez comments to George after receiving the award was that he had the good fortune to play for outstanding coaches and was privileged to play at a high level. "I will always remember my days at NHB as some of the best times I had while growing up".

Erin Toole, Girls U-18, $2,000 and Nicole Madonia, Girls U-17 Premier, $2,000. Toole will be going to USC majoring in Health Production and Disease Prevention Studies with a minor in Exercise Science. She has played for NHB for three years and was recommended for the award by her coach "Papa Joe" Ramirez. Unfortunately she will not play college ball because of a torn ACL. That kept her from playing for most of her final year with NHB.

Madonia will be attending Chapman University in Orange majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy. She has played for NHB for six years and remembers her experiences fondly. "Playing for NHB has taught me many lessons that can be applied to everyday life. The most important thing I've learned is never sell yourself short". She was coached by Sam Tanaka.

NHB Board of Directors and myself wish all three of you continued success in the future and hope your future will be as rewarding as your experience with NHB.
