NHB Boys U-16 Finalist at Nomads Coaches Showcase
Coming back from high school and after a month of intense training, NHB Black Boys U16 traveled to San Diego, CA from March 24 - 26, 2007 to participate in the prestigious Nomads Coaches Showcase Tournament.
The team participated in the Premier Flight of the tournament.
On Saturday morning they tied Tucson SA 91 (Arizona state finalists) 1-1, and in the afternoon they beat NV Fusion 90, 3-1. Sunday morning they tied their last pool game against FC United (Illinois state finalists). As a result, NHB tied West Coast FC for a wild card, a tie that was decided in PKs. The shootout resulted in a 5-4 win for NHB.
In the quarter finals NHB faced Nomads Soccer Club bringing back memories of both clubs rivalry in the past. The game ended in a 1-1 tie that went to PKs with NHB prevailing at the end with a score of 4-3. NHB moved into the semifinals on Monday morning to face Real SoCal, which beat PVSC Raiders in another quarter final game. Real SoCal forfeited the semifinal game due to lack of players and NHB ended up playing the semifinal game against PVSC Raiders.
The game ended with NHB winning 1-0 and earning the trip to the championship game against LAFC (Flyers). After 70 minutes of a very great and tense game, the game ended 1-1. During overtime, LAFC prevailed and won the game 2-1.
NHBFC had put Eddie Soto in charge of this team to see if he could get them ready for National Cup coming up in April and from the results of this weekend I believe they are close to being ready. Eddie wants to congratulate his team NHB Black, Boys U16 on a great tournament!!
